Kong rats! I've pretty much given up the plane part of it for now, with the discovery that having enough control surfaces allows for infinite flight, often without even needing fuel for takeoff. So I'm back to Munshots. I've got extra fuel orbiting the Mun now (not that it can ever be used), but still haven't managed a landing. I did manage to miss again on one attempt, putting a lander into orbit around the sun. It has nothing left but a bit of RCS fuel now, so I expect they'll never see home again.
Be sure to include some way to take off again in your lander, or you'll be establishing a Munbase.
