Yeah, I guess that's what I meant. He's singing the song from the perspective of an entitled, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, southern dwelling American. The singer hates everyone not like him but it is actually HIM that is disgusting and awful.
"One in a million" in most cases means that person is special....in this instance, he's just one out of a million more just like him.
I doubt it was Axl's personal feelings, but instead he was making a statement. Actually, Welcome To The Jungle had a similar theme of basically a small town boy coming to the big city and he's having problems adjusting to things he's never seen/experienced before and ultimately ends up corrupting him.
One in a Million controversial? Maybe just because of a couple of words in the song, but anyone focusing on those words is missing the bigger picture, or meaning of the song.
