somewhere down the line (~age 10), the nes was about as all-consuming as a non-physical/substance dependency could be. i'm sure this kind of thing happens all the time, and the source of it could be many different things. for me, it was mah nes.
which, in short, leads me to this; despite being thrust into the public eye on a regular basis, video-game addictions aren't the villains themselves - they are the quickeners... they are a fast-forward button for whatever qualities about your personality would normally manifest over time. whatever catastrophe or splendor results from them, the scapegoat was only ever a variable.
