Oh sure, to some degree, though to write well, one doesn't need to have any etymological knowledge of the language in question. It's just a (possibly) fun bonus.
I tend to feel about that sort of thing how I feel about Culture (and particularly some non-US ones) : possibly, in some cases definitely, interesting and enlightening in parts, but mostly....like religion....restrictive. Perhaps also undesirably boisterous.
Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.
