Licensed to Ill, the album that included "Fight for Your Right", was produced by Rick Rubin and he had a huge hand in the overall sound of the album. Rubin is responsible for selecting many of the heavy metal and hard rock samples. He's also responsible for getting Kerry King (from the thrash metal band Slayer) to play guitar and the solo on "Fight for Your Right".
Paul's Boutique was their follow up to Licensed to Ill and they went out of their way to distance themselves from the white frat-boy party-rap image by making an album that was markedly different. This time around, they co-produced the album with the Dust Brothers and focused heavily on 70's funk and soul samples and densely layered tracks. The result is one of the most critically acclaimed rap albums of all time.
