My kind brother-in-law bequeathed to me an 8" LG tablet running Android 3. This was literally just days after I wondered aloud on Facebook how to keep my young 'uns busy without risking the iPad I use for work. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers5.gif)
I am seeking a network-based, streaming media player for said Android tablet - preferably gratis, but I will pay for just the right app - which works like the VLC Streamer app for iOS. This latter program is handy in that not only does it allow simple browsing of shared volumes and directories on the network, but also displays media for which iOS normally doesn't even provide/allow codecs.
I have tried a handful of different players and somehow can't figure them out. One of them appeared to be a remote for the actual, original VLC, but I tried to set up a stream server and that experiment was a pretty sad failure.
