There are plenty of "arcade" games in MAME I've only encountered as "ports" on either video game systems, consoles, or in MAME. In a sense I have absolutely no clue how the "arcade" perfect version plays.
For example I've never seen a King of Fighters other than 94, 95, & 96. I've never had the opportunity to play ANY Metal Slug games in the arcade or Capcom vs SNK 2.
I'm not saying this as a "pity me" post, but as a regret as playing in MAME, no matter how accurate, isn't the same as playing on a real machine.
I'm sure there are people getting into emulation now who never have seen most of the arcade games in MAME. Probably in a few years there will be gamers who never see arcades period.
Some ports are decent, but some ports aren't anything like their arcade counterparts. While I'm thrilled MAME continues to grow and add more games to its preserved list, its a shame that probably in the next 10 to 20 years most arcade games, particularly newer PC based ones, will become extinct.
I see so many PC based arcade games breaking, just as I saw many hard drive based games like NFL Blitz, Gauntlet Legends, etc be almost as fragile as CPS3 games.
I was just wondering what people's thoughts were on the subject.
