Yes, the 360's CPU and the PowerPC portion of Sony's Cell are *extremely* slow per-clock. IBM had to remove everything about the PowerPC that normally makes it fast in order to get the clock past 3 GHz (this is similar to Intel's Pentium 4 debacle, only much, much worse). Hence, for a primarily single-threaded app like MAME the 360/PS3 are only marginally faster than the 800 MHz Wii (which has all the go-fast features in place).

A PowerPC backend for the UML system isn't going to come from MAMEdev given the only PPC machine we currently support (the Power Macintosh G5) hasn't been manufactured since 2006, and its rumored that the next-gen consoles will use other architectures as well.
