Also, do not assign any drive letters to the new SSD if you attach it to the PC while running the OS you are going to clone. You will end up with disk signatures in the registry and cause it either to not boot or to take the wrong letter. When you first boot the cloned drive, make sure the original drive is disconnected the first time. If you don't the drive letters will get screwed up and your new C drive will be another letter other than C and the original will still be C.
In other words, do not let Windows see the new drive and do not boot the computer with the original drive connected the first time. Once the new drive has been booted at least once, you may then introduce the original drive.
