So my plumber who got my water heater working for a mere $290 when I was prepared to replace the thing recommends to me a good HVAC guy... who takes a look at my system and says "I can get you a new heatpump installed for $2,500" ... same 5 ton, same SEER rating as the first HVAC guy's quote."
$14,000 vs $2,500. Arg, uh, I hate these tough life decisions.
The story goes like this... the first HVAC guy said I had to replace not just my outdoord heat pump, but also the indoor air handler and all the zone whatevers because the law says they need to phase out the old freon systems... and the new systems don't work with the old systems, they both have to be switched out, thus the up to $14,000 price tag.
The second HVAC guy says its true, the law says at some point they have to phase out the old freon systems... in 2025...
So sleeping in the living room by the fireplace for a couple days extra to get a second opinion paid off big time.
I hate ass wipes like the first company. That's so wrong to do people like that. He couldd see we have a freezing cold house with little kids in need of a new heater pronto, so he decides to take me to the cleaners. I wish I could be the guy's urologist "We need to take the penis with the vasectomy, because the law requires the penis and the balls be compatible."
