How old is the one that broke? Are you sure the compressor isn't under warranty? They usually have a long one. If the rest of the system is good, I would consider repairing it. Talk to several companies about that possibility. I wonder if a heat pump is worth it. A small furnace is probably more efficient. Plus you aren't running the compressor all year.
