It depends on the mouse. I used to have a Microsoft Intellimouse and that thing had a second LED where your palm rests that -never turned off-, not to mention the bottom was transparent so the light was very noticeable. It was annoying. But I have a Logitech MX 518 now and you can't see the light at all.

I see less and less keyboards with PS2 connectors these days. I don't like using USB keyboards but I'm pretty much out of options now.
