Yesterday some numb-nuts was riding his Daddy's nice new 4x4 quadcab pickup through my circular driveway while honking his horn at speeds excessive enough to pretty much tokyo-drift his way around, leaving giant black skid marks... and then he proceeded down the road, circled my property and came back for round two, then went off some side street. I could hear the maniac screeching around elsewhere for better than 10 more minutes, so I called the cops before he kills someone. Again and again, he came through my driveway at ridiculous speeds, making my driveway look like a blackened indy raceway, not the white cement it used to be, only to race off to other places doing the same where ever the noises where coming from.
45 minutes of this later, I get a call from the cops, asking me to meet them at a corner about 1/2 a mile away to identify the truck they pulled over.
Yep, it was the truck, and, it turns out, being driven by my son's friend, with two young girls as passengers, one of whom is our immediate neighbor. I tell the cops I don't want to press any charges, just make them stop the tom-foolery before they kill someone, especially since I have two toddlers who were playing outside when it started until I called them in for their safety.
Despite my request they go easy on the kid, the cop cites the kid for:
1. Broken tail light
2. Failing to stop
3. Failing to signal
4. Speeding
5. Public nuisance
6. Driving on a permit without an adult
7. Driving on a permit with minor passengers
8. No proof of insurance
Needless to say he lost his permit, and can't drive again until he's 18.
And my son comes home from school today and promptly locks himself in his bedroom, because I'm the worst father in the world, and now everybody at school hates him because of me.
