Never knew this command existed... but it rules.
I'm TRYING to clean up all our video files from two computers, and the camcorder... and its a mess... literally thousands of files, duplicates everywhere, incomplete sets everywhere. I fingered there must be an easy way to sort this out, so I googled "compare directories" and bam... punched me in the nose.
Unix command:
diff -rq dir1 dir2
where r is recursive, q is quick (meaning don't compare file contents just file names).
Easy cheesy. Quickly created a master set of files, deleted all the redundant garbage, saved hundreds of gigabytes of wasted memory, and can confidently erase my camcorder's memory in prep for tomorrows vidography of Bounty Hunter.
