A coworker once meant to IM me to gripe about my boss, and ended up accidentally IMing my boss instead. Fortunately, my name wasn't mentioned, so I was able to stay clear of the situation, but it was pretty awkward between the two of them for a while.
The safest thing to do is not make snarky comments about people via electronic means. Or, you know, at all.
