Used to work in the phone industry about ten years ago. It's widely known that the Caller ID system is easily spoofable; that's one of the big reasons for the internally-used ANI system for determining call routing. It's just that average customers have no way to get to the ANI data and it seems like the phone companies have no interest in making it possible.
