The population of unemulated games in MAME increasingly consists of things running Windows or Linux on x86. Not only does that require a lot of fiddly work on the i386+ core, it's kind of boring. This is why a lot of the devs spend a lot of time on MESS lately: there are still easy problems to be had there, and in a lot of cases it's hardware we actually grew up using so it's fun.
