I'm not sure my idea is getting through correctly. In the end, what you'd have would be a straight-up vertical version. When you correct the angle of the picture, the perspective and proportions of the image would be the completely vertical. the only difference is you'd get some of the 3D effect because you'd see some of the "depth" of the artwork. This doesn't require a massive overhaul of the MAME code, just a camera, a protractor, a black light and about 10 minutes of tweaking in photoshop.
I'll post an example image if I have time.
