Ikari warriors twin stick hack

I recall a thread here years ago about a MAME cheat to enable using Ikari Warriors with two 8-way joysticks, much like Robotron. However, I never got to implement it on my setup and now I can't find it. I think it's old enough that it is no longer available here. I can't find any info on the web either.

Does anybody have any info on this?
