George Leutz's attempt at the all-time Q*bert world record was still going strong Friday evening, almost 36 hours after he had started his quest to topple the 28-year-old record score. Warren Davis, the designer and programmer of the arcade classic, chimed in to support Leutz's attempt. "I think it's amazing that George wants to beat the record on Q*bert and I'm in his corner all the way," Davis told Arcade Game Examiner. "Thanks, George, for keeping the spirit of Q*bert alive! Wish I could be there in person." With hundreds of lives still remaining as the business day at Richie Knucklez Arcade Games began to wind down, the Q*bert machine reset after a nearby machine was unplugged, ending the record attempt near a reported 16.8 million points. In order to defeat the 33,273,520 record set by Canada's Rob Gerhardt in November 1983, Leutz would have had to play for over 70 hours on one quarter and was fully expecting to do so, according to comments he made before starting his run on Thursday morning.
