Actually, none of the available information makes sense.
a. Websites that host Visual PinMAME tables say "bbbowlin" is a 1984 game. b. MAME source says 1988 game. c. History.DAT says 1979 game , mfg. "Unknown", which History.DAT says they got the info from inside the ROMs (really?). d. And the original PinMAME source says: "Big Ball Bowling (Bowler)",19??,"United(?)"
So it appears no one really knows what this ROM set is or remembers where it came from.
Either way, true "big ball" bowlers dated mostly from the 1960's-mid 70's.
I am thinking that PinMAME devs got the ROM dump, didn't know what it was, called it a "Big Ball Bowler" from United because that is the category, and the name stuck. But United games tend to have true names, like "Avalon" and "Frolics" and stuff: http://www.pinrepair.com/bowl/index.htm
And of course, PinMAMEDEV might have done that because the same ROM was used on multiple cabinets.
Anyhow, to proceed we need to know more about the ROM set from PinMAMEDEV, IMHO. (keeping in mind this isn't exactly my area of expertise...)
Honestly, for some of this pinball stuff, it's REAL early days, I wouldn't worry about it too much ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)
