After throwing out IE and installing FF, then killing the proxy settings that were keeping everything from having full access to the 'net, used Norton Power Eraser and Malwarebytes on it.
Ran a second time, but they seemed to have done it first time around, as Microsoft Security Essentials was able to run, as was her "Dell Dock."
Those made it easy, once I was able to get them on the system. ABP now running in FF. See if it holds.
