If everything were free, there would be no incentive to produce things for other people to use, or to provide the services we all rely on. There is suddenly no electricity, no law enforcement. You need a farm, and everyone takes what you grow. We are reduced to nothing, and society starts over with the same rules we have had this time around. Give it a hundred years or so to get back to something near modernity, since the knowledge is still available.
