I've bought 3 (v1.3) HDMI cables off Amazon, each under $2. They work perfectly. I use one with a (Gen 2) "WD TV" and get up to 1080p on our 40" Toshiba Regza LCV TV (the TRON: Legacy trailers look awesome). Can't understand why they're so expensive at Best Buy and Wal-Mart. I've heard similar arguments on "Monster" cable speaker wire and using "lamp cord" - people swear lamp cord's just as good and a fraction of the cost. I personally haven't had any problems with "shielding" or signal noise, etc...
