Where you're going wrong is that you're assuming that the game's resolution has anything to do with the calculations. It doesn't.
In the case of dkong, the screen should be rendered to fit a standard 4:3 (in this case 3:4) aspect ratio, so the area that is targeted is set up to describe a 3:4 screen centered and expanded to fit the bounds you provided.
This is controled by the layout provided for dkong. (Since there isn't one explicitly provided, it uses the default vertical.lay).
