I used to have a bunch of handmade dough-ornaments from El Salvador for the Christmas tree... it was kind of the theme of the tree at that time.
When my boys were little, they wouldn't leave the tree alone... so I got the idea of putting the tree outside of the sliding glass door... we can still see the tree inside, but the boys couldn't get at it to mess with it.
Then I found a few stray hooks on the floor around the tree, which was strange because there were no ornaments missing their hook. A few days later I noticed even more stray hooks on the floor, which made no sense, because there were still no ornaments missing thier hook... where were all the hooks coming from?
Then... when there were no more dough-ornaments left on the tree, I realized the squirrels were eating the ornaments.
