Another mini garage update...

No more photos just yet, getting dark too early. Anywhoo, some should_be_common_knowledge tidbits I'd thought I'd pass along for anyone that doesn't know them:
1. Lumber "measurements" are more like "names". I don't care what you are buying, it's never as advertised. Take for instance a 2"x4". It's actual size is 1-1/2"x3-1/2", and previously was 1-3/4"x3-3/4". As an engineer, this pisses me off to no end.
2. Everyone and their mother will sneer at you DURING the build when you over-build something. After you've built it, those same people will express admiration as to how nice or sturdy something is. As an engineer, this pisses me off to no end and makes me want to smack people.
3. Building codes are never written in a manner to which they can be followed properly. Building inspectors will be sure to pull ~something~ out of their book of rules to fail your inspection at least once. It could be as obscure as a sub-section that references an update to a grandfather clause in the IRC 1852 that anchor spacing needs to be 3/4" closer than they are to an edge. As an engineer, this pisses me off to no end and makes me want to smack people that have approved the spacing ahead of time.
4. Menards has great deals on garage doors. As a cheap bastard this pleases me to no end.
