video editing advice needed
11/12/10 06:16 AM

Here's the deal...

I have a song from a band that I really like. There is no official video, but there are a bunch of live performances on YouTube with lousy audio.

I would like to try to line up the audio studio audio with one of the live videos ripped from YouTube. I think it should be close but I might need to slow down the video slightly to make it sync up better.

I can rip the video from YouTube using DownloadHelper (Firefox plugin) in FLV format.

Then I split out the video and audio using FLV Extract.

Here's where I'm stuck.

The extracted video is in ".264" format, which is guess is H.264 or something. The new audio is in MP3 format but I can easily convert this to WAV if it would help.

I've tried to find some free video editing tools, but most are pretty lame or don't work at all with the video format I have.

I attempted to convert it to an MPEG (1?) AVI, then loaded it up in VirtualDub, but I couldn't get the audio shifted enough to start in the right spot on the video. Plus, the converted video looked much worse than the original, AND had a watermark since it was a free converter.

What options, if any do I have to do this with free tools?
