It's VRender0- (Minus) which in hardware terms is basically just a framebuffer with some extra write modes for handling transparency. I assume in this case VRender0- is actually just a software library compiled into the game code.
It shouldn't be eating up a significant amount of performance in MAME's video code, mostly memory writes and the Hyperstone.
Actual VRender0 is Crystal System, where the video is actually hardware accelerated. (Same features but done in hardware, not a software lib?)
Then there's the Voodoo / Medix GX PC based board on which Funky Ball runs which they called 'VRender 2Beta Rev4'
