Most of which are long sequences of kanji that when translated literally from the components usually makes some sort of sense even if it's not the direct equivalent word or phase in English.

Nope. If you can parse Japanese well enough to know where word boundaries are you can look up the words in a technical directory. You don't need to know the words or be an EE to translate based on them.
