MAMEWorld Forums - EmuChat - Progress has been made but help is still needed!

1.) I am sorry for not consolidating post. Using a forum is new to me and I dont know how.
2.) I appreciate everyone who answered my questions earlier
3.) Progress has been made, I feel like I am on the edge of the solution.
4.) Since all the previous post, I have been able to use my MACINTOSH to run MAME! I was able to download Gorf and get it to work. I had already had that much success with a PC, but I feel MUCH more comfortable with my Mac.
5.) As suggested I got me some USB Controllers and I plugged them in while in the game . . . and here is my big problem!
6.) I know I run the game, hit the tab key and input to "this game" to change the up down left and right from the arrow keys to the game controller.
7.) But for the life of me I CANNOT figure out how to do it. I read in one place, I need to change "Joystick" from 0 to 1 in MAME.ini In another place it said to remap the up down left and right, but unfortunately no directions on how to do it.
8.) Please would someone who know have pity on my ignorant ass and give some detail instructions on how to get this game to move the ship with the game controller???
9.) As many of you all have said, Crystal Quest works best with the mouse, and on the Apple platform the mouse is the ship by default . . . that game is working perfect.
10.) Now that I have found out how to add ROMS to my Macintosh, I am sure I can find Battlezone and Tempest . . . and I bet those game will work better with the game controller, instead of the arrow keys.
11.) In a nutshell ALL I NEED TO KNOW NOW IS DETAIL INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE MOVEMENTS WITH THE GAME CONTROLLER NOT THE ARROW KEYS.

I appreciate having a place to ask these questions and I apologize for being an old fart who doesn't know this stuff. I am a user not a developer and this problem has given me new respect for developers. I look forward to your replies! :-)
