So, with the "departure" of Mr Haywood (let's not start discussing the ins and outs of it again), it would seem that there is no appreciable release binary for the "Universal Machine Emulator" or UME.
Personally, I'm a great fan of this idea, that the two halves of this project would come together in a glorious whole, despite the obvious fact of the Warez kiddies who would demand certain systems be emulated and then pirate the ROMs and ISOs (or Disk/Tape/Cart images), taking advantage.
Although, I suppose a part of me can see it as an opportunity to begin to understand the intricacies of the underlying code that runs through this system, as I begin to compile for myself the Codebase and step through the minor and major hiccups that come with self-compilation.
But I am just a player at the moment, and tinkering around the edges isn't going to cut it. And even if I did become the official source for UME builds, I'd need a central repository to host them, and I'd need to remember to update every release, and recompile.
If I thought I could handle this responsibility, I'd jump at the chance. But I know my own limits all too well, and I'd doubtless forget, or miss a release, or lose interest for a while, and entire cycles might pass me by.
But I can't be the only one who believes in the central tenet of UME. That these projects can produce a unified solution. I just shouldn't be the one to do it right now.
