In earlier versions of MAME, the sprite viewer (F4, then Enter) used to display sprites with their proper pixel sizes, either 1x, 2x, 3x, and so on, reducing the number of sprites per row if needed. However, since I think either .236 or .237, the sprites instead resize and skew based on the window/screen size and it greatly distorts the sprites, especially at lower resolutions. Is there a way to get sprites to show up in the viewer as they did in older versions on MAME, or is the change baked into the program now?
