Choplifter variants vs real arcade footage
06/17/23 02:52 AM

I'm going to make a video of Choplifter soon, so I was familiarising myself with it, as I know there are a trio of open bugs on MAME Testers: https://mametesters.org/view_all_bug_page.php?filter=122733

I then noticed another difference between all 3 versions currently in MAME: both parent choplift and chopliftbl just say "Player 1 1st Sortie" when starting a game, but chopliftu has the full instructions (about the number of people you need to pick up). These instructions can be seen on 2 real life cabinets, but aren't present on the parent (strangely) or bootleg.

There's also, confusingly, what appears to be video of the arcade running in MAME (not specified which version) with music playing on the attract mode demo, which doesn't happen on any of the current versions in MAME, and can't be seen in the arcade versions above (though attract mode audio is a dipswitch, it is enabled in MAME and you hear the helicopter rotors and firing on the title screen).

I just tried them in FB Alpha too and it's similar there (although the parent doesn't work at all and digitised speech is just a sound).
