Does the Dreamcast handle input from a Racing Wheel differently?
09/18/13 03:44 PM

The Dreamcast racing games were labeled as being compatible with a racing wheel and it would detect that a wheel was connected instead of a regular controller.

The wheel didn't have any force feedback other than the same rumble pack that could be attached to the regular controller.

So, did the game process the input differently for the wheel or is it just a reconfigured controller with a steering wheel attached to the x-axis pot instead of a joystick?

To put it another way...if you hacked the pots from the wheel into a controller and the game only saw a controller, would the control be the same as if using the wheel pcb?

This is just out of curiosity. I don't own one. I'm curious if having the race controller show up in an emulator instead of the standard controller would make any difference in the feel of the controls.

I figured someone who has worked on emulating the system might know.
