Systemic obsolescence
(snip) To combat this 3rd party repairing( say in the case of replacing a laser assembly in a DVD drive..soldered points are on the PCB board without explanation so unless you know which ones to remove you cannot repair the item.

B.S. The shorting pad is there to protect the laser from static discharge. The manufacturer relies on the fact that the tech should know this. Saves them a penny on printing an info sheet. More on topic is that the part is usually 10 times more then a new unit.

What's your favourite wiki B.S?

Do not p-mail me for help compiling my updates, ask on the board.
Do not request sound for your favorite game. I work on whatever, when I get around to it.
If you have schematics for discrete sound games not easily found on the net, I would be interested.
