2024 MLB season underway and the Bad News Bears - 1976 movie version
#398286 - 04/10/24 07:15 AM

A couple weeks late since 2024 season started and that means to me always catching the original Bad News Bears movie that had Walter Matheau and Vic Morrow as the rival coaches in the little league opposing teams.

To me, it is greatest baseball movie ever. It was simplistic, but had entertaining quotes throughout the movie and had some light moments of suspense and drama all from a kids’ perspective. Just as good these days as it was then when I watched it in old Fox big screen walk-in theatre when it used to be single screen theatre in 1976 before the theatre went to multiplex movie theater with multiple movie screens.

A few clips of why original Bad News Bears is worth watching.

Walter’s line as mentioned by a YouTube commenter :

“Get back in the stands before I shave off half of your mustache and shove it up your left nostril" sounds so much like Shakespeare. I love that line! I hope that Walter Matthau enjoyed being in this movie. He seemed to make it a lot of fun.

btw: seeing Pitt Pirates start off 2024 season at 9 wins 3 losses makes baseball season okay for now.

I still remember seeing this movie at the theater back in the day. It is one of the best baseball movies ever made imo.

The MLB Network usually shows this movie just before Spring Training begins. Your Pirates are looking good btw.

There was just something uniquely special about Bad News Bears and it was a simple movie to enjoy. The cast of characters, the dialogue script writing, the musical scores arrangements being timely placed during the movie.

When I saw the movie in Fox large size single screen theatre in 1976, it made the film all that much better. I am glad I had the opportunity to see film that way before theatre was remodeled in 1977 to have multiple miniature theatre screens which cheapened the film watching experience.

The Bad News Bears sequel was okay, but nowhere near as good.

The film also used to be shown in first week of April on the Movies TV channel. but the channel stopped showing that film a few years ago.

The NL central will be a challenge since all the teams in the division are in better shape compared to other divisions.

I am amazed the owner Nutting was willingly spending money and sign a couple free agents which have contributed along the way. The team still needs a better manager than Shelton. I wish Jim Leyland could replace Shelton while Jim was tossing the ceremonial pitch.

I am glad Jim Leyland will finally be in MLB hall of fame this year.
