Marbella Vice, video from rare spanish laserdisc arcade game at Internet Archive
#397939 - 02/11/24 11:55 PM

In the 90s, the Spanish company Picmatic produced three laserdisc arcade games: "Los Justicieros" (aka Zorton Brothers), "Marbella Vice" and
"Tierras Salvajes".

Marbella Vice was therefore the second title, released in 1994. A supposedly parodic title (just check the similarity of the well-known title
Miami Vice), whose laserdisc video content has recently been digitized and made available on the Internet Archive.

If anyone is curious to see what it was like, video is available in Spanish and English audio tracks:

I hope whoever did all the work also used similar method as what Moogly had posted here earlier.

https://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/sh...part=1&vc=1

Please also pass along that the player must be calibrated before dumping, that there should be no log messages about player skips during dumping, and that they should attempt to at least partially decode the dump before leaving. There've been multiple instances now of LaserDisc dumps that ended up being bad when I went to decode them, because the person dumping them didn't do any verification at the time.

I am going to guess the folks already knew what to do exactly in order to get a quality data capture of the PAL format discs. Hopefully a lot of the PAL format discs will be able to be preserved there since that is a big deal for the European region.

Here are a few earlier posts on Bannisters as Moogly provided the status of his work and what was involved.

Don't worry about.
DdD with calibrated player and a lot of work, including polish three sources before dump them.

The job of recreativas.org dumping and reducing dropouts was brillant.

On that subject, just because I know that people watching through the footage will see it and panic - that distortion at the bottom in parts of the video is on the real thing as well. With it all being filmed on ENG tape-based cameras, there's a lot of damage and noise on some scenes, but monitor overscan etc pretty much covered up the worst - it isn't a player or capture issue.

I haven't played this in a long time, and it's been fun to see it again in all its over the top glory. I presume the other two are out there, but whether there's sufficient discs to image for a dropout-free capture, that could be the problem.

That reference should added to the laser disc section to document that the actual image is like that.

Seeing what is noted in the source file and what will be involved, I don’t expect that to be working in MAME for some time, but as long as the disc image data is considered valid, that’s good enough for now for time being.

This is inexact.

Okay. I look forward to when future updates take place so some of the ALG brand games can be preserved.
