Microvision Artwork
#397900 - 02/05/24 03:32 AM

I made a Microvision artwork layout pack. It features a view for each original cartridge. I don't think there is any way to auto select based on the rom file being played, so you will have to choose your rom and view separately in the Mame options. It could still use some work, but is usable.

This was one of the handheld game systems that had along with assortment of 1970s era Mattel led games back in late 1970s.

It should eventually be supported, but unsure when.

Viewing code in source file, it is a hash file based handheld because cartridges are changeable compared to dedicated single use handheld game systems.

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/miltonbradley/microvsn.cpp

Since my out-of-date computer is unable to run versions of MAME newer than .180, I won’t be able to help out since the softlist hash file UI is on versions of MAME far newer than what my computer can handle.

The most similar setup artwork-wise is Nintendo Game Boy system. I believe the hash list file for Game Boy has it were users can run the handheld Game Boy system without having to exit MAME if selecting a different supported game cartridge. I am uncertain if there is any artwork that is supported for Game Boy system at this time. Maybe there is. I am not sure if it is in a dynamic state in which if a cartridge uses a specific bezel component and if it is possible to have each cartridge with its own specific artwork able to be changed when switching to a different game cartridge. Thanks with doing the artwork support for the cartridges used with Microvision system.

Somebody else should be able to provide exact needed answer(s) sometime later.

All they'd have to do is insert a command in the heirarchy above "view name" called "rom name" or such. That would be an immense addition to console artwork, but it still wouldn't allow you to change cartridges without closing the console.

Okay. I believe the best example would be the game boy layout file on Mr Do’s artwork support web site since Microvision artwork would be in a similar artwork layout style comparable to Game boy artwork layout format. And the Game Boy external layout file format is what should be copied as an example and maybe parts of it re-used for the Microvision artwork layout file.

My bad…I was guessing maybe the Nintendo Playchoice 10 change game during game play was already completed and forget that is still yet to be emulated. Never mind this part of what I had thought and posted.
