My ARCADE: TETRIS
#397790 - 01/30/24 12:10 PM

So I found out they make these little "arcade" (in quotes for a reason) / handheld game devices.

One in particular is for TETRIS™. The most up to date version has 3 buttons... Rotate Left, Rotate Right, and Hold.

So far - so good.

What I'm wondering is if it recognizes the t-spin bonus. That's where you can rotate the t piece into and/or through the other tetriminos to make it fit - when normally you couldn't just drop it in straight... Now, you might still be able to rotate it, but the game wouldn't give bonus points for it.

Anyway... I have a way to get this game (essentially) free (well, it will cost me "points" from a loyalty program -long story). If it's lacking this one mechanic I think I'd be less inclined to get it... But I might still get it.

----------

Edit: I'll just go ahead and order it. I'll reply to this post as soon as I find out.

Or if someone else just happens to know - they're certainly welcome to chime in.

Got it. So to answer my question - no, it doesn't allow for t-spins. You can't even turn a piece when it's next to a wall. I'd also say that the pieces have that sticky feel of the older games. Once it touches a piece that sets it in. I always hated that... Or rather, got spoiled by being able to slide and turn a piece that already touched another piece before it could be set to where you wanted it.

The voice samples for clearing lines or other bonuses are low bit-rate garbage. The play area could've been made larger without the background graphics on the borders... Because if you're like me - you're probably going to be suffering from eye strain after playing for a while. But the movement of the pieces seems to be really smooth.

The controls feel fine. It seems to have only one song, but you can turn off the sfx and music if you'd like. So there are some gameplay options like setting difficulty and handicap (I guess game speed or the number of layers you have to dig through).

I guess I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.

I don't plan on putting any batteries in it. I'll be fine plugging in a 5 volt charging cable to power it.

I can play a "better" version of Tetris on my phone with tons of ads.
