Dd-9, Casio Cz 101, and Casloopy *edited again*
#397199 - 10/07/23 09:26 AM

When the .256 release happened, this was supported.
Yamaha DD-9 Digital Percussion [BCM, Devin Acker]

SYST( 1994, dd9, 0, 0, dd9, dd9, psr150_state, empty_init, "Yamaha", "DD-9 Digital Percussion", MACHINE_SUPPORTS_SAVE | MACHINE_CLICKABLE_ARTWORK )

A decent videoclip shows the sound samples of the product in action.
That would be something if a user can get almost similar results in MAME to show emulation in action such as running the drum samples. Trying to do drum rolls might be a bit too much of a stretch.

Description :
This noisy recording showcases the DD-9 in all its cheesy glory. From low-grade, cardboardy bass drums to awkwardly-chopped sound effect samples... the DD-9 has it all, and it's a joy to listen to for that very reason.

My first synth was a CZ-101 back in the 90s. Amazing usefulness in spite of its simplicity. Remember the half-size keys?

Casio musical equipment new [Re: Nightvoice]

> Remember the half-size keys?

For myself being drums etc. , my hands on limited experience with Casio music equipment was with Casio Rz-1 drum sampler unit. I was working with one for a week while trying to create rhythm pattern samples for a fellow jc music department music major back in late 1980s. I was asked to assist in making a few drum sample patterns for a piano/keyboard player for some music recital performance.

The person that was the owner of the Rz-1 was away and I had to learn on the fly regarding setting up the drum patterns since no one had a manual available at the time. I was able to do just enough to make some usable adequate drum samples at the time. Having YouTube access back then would have helped me get samples created much faster.

Espen Kraft has very good tutorial vid clips and I would have referenced his videos has they been around in late 1980s.

I agree with Espen’s take regarding Jeff Lynne, but I still give the edge to Joe Zawinul (Weather Report)
since Joe always had great interpretation when playing keyboards while Wayne Shorter was playing Saxophone.

Aside from a couple useful links of videoclips of Casio Cz - 230S, several clips were non-English and many others weren’t as informative such as showing examples of what is supported and also limitations of Casio Cz-230s.

A rare videoclip somewhat showing how a Casio Sz-1 sequencer is used.

All Casio MIDI recording setup circa 1986 - Casio SZ-1, CZ-1000, and RZ-1

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9eASB_dT8S8

SynthMania :
I think this is the first video on the Internet that features a Casio SZ-1 sequencer...? Anyway, here's a circa 1986 all Casio MIDI recording setup:
Casio SZ-1 = sequencer
Casio CZ-1000 = synth used in multitimbral mode
Casio RZ-1 = drum machine

I guess one obstacle is not being able to use a sequencer setup arrangement shown in video clip is MAME would have to be setup in multiple instances of running some Casio keyboard and another to run Sz-1 sequencer and somehow do a link where data can go from keyboard window over to sequencer window and back and forth. Think of it being like linking multiple cabs for a multiple cab setup which SailorSat would display in some of her older video clips in her old posts, but not exactly like same thing. It would be multiple of 2 instances of MAME running simultaneously and sequencer and keyboard recognizing each other at same time during operation. If it is actually possible to do it at this, great, but I don’t believe it is possible at this time.

The alternative scenario is whenever Cz-5000 and its own built in sequencer ever gets emulated, the Cz-5000 could cover everything because Casio Cz-1 and other Cz models, except Cz-5000 and Cz-230S, do not have sequencer support.

Comments from YouTube posters :

—-
Fun fact - the sz1 was built into the cz5000. I used to hook it (the cz5000) to an electro-harmonix sequencer, which in turn sequenced a paia modular and triggered a boss dr220e.

The CZ5000 has 8 tracks...and more memory..otherwise it's basically the same sequencer.
