Maybe need soon?
#396721 - 07/26/23 04:24 AM Attachment: goaltogo.png 465 KB (0 downloads)

I happened upon this one and thought that since it is kind of a rarity, it might be wanted if the laser disc stuff finally gets updated sometime in the near future.
I wasn't sure if anyone already has a better one or not but one this might be able to be made usuable.
Or if someone really wants to pick it up to scan or hold on to, they're only asking $20 which seems pretty reasonable...

Looks straight ahead enough. Hopefully the game is (gets?) up and running in MAME and the rest of the artwork can be found.

Could possibly have done with that here

They have released it seems.

I created the vertical overlay for Hypseus using the image from the Craigslist auction. Hypseus currently has Goal To Go working.

Here's the cleaned up version of the file I used for the overlay.

Sigh. I already got a flat "no" from this guy about rotating the screen on Singe. I don't know enough about the code to understand why they can't easily use MAME's artwork module for Hypseus since it's open source, but at least he wasn't rude about it. All I can do for now is dream the impossible dream that one day all of the laserdisc games will be emulated in MAME.

The latest version of Hypseus has better support for vertical displays. I've been using the vertical overlays I made for Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II, Space Ace, Thayer's Quest, Cliff Hanger, and Goal To Go. Space Ace even has the Scoreboard and Annunciator images/leds built in.

"Note: The release rewrites the logical viewport display functionality, allowing game window and bezel placement anywhere on the visable area. This gives better support for vertically orientated displays with full cabinet layout. It also provides several other benefits."

https://github.com/DirtBagXon/hypseus-singe/releases/tag/v2.11.1

Until more Laserdisc games are supported in MAME it's now a viable alternative for me to play the games on a vertical monitor with bezels.

MAME's .lay file support should be the next logical progression.

Meh, I see they added the -vertical_screen switch, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Unless it actually rotates the screen and scoreboard, it won't help me. DirtBagXon told me that was never going to happen with Hypseus.

Maybe I'm just a dumb noob here, but what makes your setups so different ?

Isn't it just an orientation thing? I mean isn't it just:

We're talking about the difference between a rotating monitor where Windows is set for landscape orientation vs. portrait orientation. If all of my MAME games and pinball tables are set up for a rotating monitor vs. a fixed-position one, it's frustrating to have to do numerous workarounds to get laserdisc games to do that as well (and still not have a working scoreboard for Dragon's Lair/Space Ace). I'm not willing to commit my main monitor to portrait orientation 100% of the time when none of my regular applications are practical that way.

"rotating monitor" - ok that explains it.

Thanks.

You know this seemed like such an easy thing to remedy that got me thinking. I can't find anything on a simple microswitch setup,
which would seem like a simple implementation to trip one of the apps such as those listed here:

https://superuser.com/questions/447155/h...reen-in-windows

Seems such a simple idea, has anyone come across or designed such a setup ?

Edit: I mean hell if that little app works seems like adding the following to the beginning and end of the batch files would do the same job.

Code:

C:\Display.exe /rotate:90

C:\Display.exe /rotate:0

Thanks for the tip! Works better than what I had.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Might be worth feeding back to the dev for others to be aware of that little app now.

Seems like a better way to do it in any case, i.e. tell the OS the correct orientation rather than trying to "fake it"...

As there seemed to be little interest in feedback here, I shared this info back to the dev, this little utility might just prove useful for others:
