Midway Bowling Alley
#396392 - 06/12/23 03:11 AM Attachment: bowler.png 105 KB (0 downloads)

a.k.a. bowler

I updated this with the same animation method used by wemr97dl on his Tail Gunner file. It's not perfect, but it moves.

Very impressive outstanding work there. As a finicky arcade youngster back then in late 1970s, I never played those specific Midway coinop games and missed out in watching the visual effects that the cabs did such as the Bowling game.

I miss Colin Howell’s Midway audio netlist work and would have enjoyed having the analog audio sounds emulated for Bowling and Shuffleboard. I am glad Colin did Midway Gun Fight audio and a few of the Midway auto racing games audio back in 2020.

They HAD sound? Learned something new.

Yes bowler is a game we regularly play. In spite of its simplistic graphics, the gameplay itself is pretty robust. Underrated.

> They HAD sound?

Yep. The analog audio sounds is part of the game logic schematics since the circuitry is also part of the L - pcb shaped hardware although Midway Maze did have its own separate audio board, but that was the lone exception of the Midway 8080 hardware games iirc.

Shuffleboard and Bowling audio are documented.

Discrete emulation support is okay, but the eventual goal is have the audio output be supported in a netlist format similar to Midway Gun Fight.

Colin’s code provided info about the hardware in details. That is why I liked his work. I hope Colin returns and does a few more Midway games.

When I first tried the game in MAME back in 2000, I knew I made a mistake of never playing actual cab when it was at places in late 1970s when I was a teenager and a cab was at a Time Out arcade at Westminster, CA mall.
Iirc the Midway Bowling Alley cab was there for maybe 2 months and gone. Even Midway Clowns cab was there longer compared to Bowling Alley. Imo Bowling Alley cabs were more likely to be found at adult oriented businesses such as bars and restaurants.

Looks good, I thought that the image would just move to the end of the axis and stop using this method
