Really dumb question
#396380 - 06/10/23 03:08 PM

I visit this site every day and I see the cool work being done with animated artwork. How is the artwork being used in your setups? Really big screen TVs, or a cabinet build approach that I have not seen yet? I must be missing something because there is a ton of effort being put into these artwork projects.

Not a dumb question. My format isn't really good for people using tablets or small screens. What I found is that using a standard 43" TV on a rotating mount approximates the size of an average arcade cabinet in terms of width. Then use the -ror and -rotate switches in your startup string or change them both to 1 in the ini file for the game (this rotates both the game display and its tab menus).

Bear in mind that the image quality varies considerably from game to game depending on what we could find, so using a larger 4K screen will sometimes give you much crappier graphics. These are largely works in progress until some large (hitherto undiscovered) repository of cabinet artwork appears or someone such as wemr97dl takes up the mantle and adds to them (as I am neither a graphics artist nor a coder). Purity is not the focus here but rather preserving something of what a game cabinet was like before it vanishes forever.

Note: In most cases, these files are add-ons to Mr. Do's existing artwork files. In Full_Cabinet view, you can toggle off elements like marquees and control panels (and custom bezels) to end up with the equivalent of an Upright_Artwork view if you're using a normal landscape display.
