MAME Classic 9.9.0
#396221 - 05/09/23 11:55 PM

MAME Classic 9.9.0 has been released. Changes in this version will require your options.ini file to be rebuilt so upon first launch you will be taken to the Options form. This release:

Changed : MAME Classic no longer adds the depreciated "NULL (not set)" text for entries in the mame.ini without a value.
Changed : MAME Classic will now create the mame.ini file in it's temp folder to avoid possible conflicts with other ini files.
Changed : Software lists will now only display software which is compatible with the selected machine.
Changed : The BIOS Filter now shows the BIOS description and filters more accurately.
Changed : The Exit routine has been cleaned up to prevent the app from crashing on exit under rare conditions.
Changed : The MESS Machine listview can now be sorted.
Changed : The MESS Machine listview would show non-installed machines in black if they didn't need a ROM but still needed a device file. These machines now show in red.
Changed : The Options form is now one scrolling page instead of two pages.
Changed : The Path selections now let you select multiple paths for ROMs and Artwork.
Fixed : Exporting a software list would fail if any filters were applied.
Fixed : A crash caused by output file biosmame.txt growing so large.
Fixed : Software Installed/Non-Installed option buttons could be greyed-out even if a selected machine has software.
Removed : Path selections for Other MAME ROMs, Ini and Comments.

Looking forward to trying this out. Out of curiosity, is there any way to bypass the ROM audits? I keep my ROMS on a NAS and it's PAINFULLY slow to audit, especially after every time I make a change to the filters.

It searches for ROMs after a filter change to update the lists. For example, you initially have a filter set to hide bootleg systems. You then remove that filter. MC will now search your ROM directories to see if any bootleg systems are available. If so, it will update the appropriate lists... Installed and Non-Installed. I wouldn't know what list to show the system if I didn't check for its availability. Do you use the Installed and Non-Installed lists? Am I understanding your concern correctly?

yep. Because I use a NAS as a single repository and access it using a couple different computers (saves me disk space, gives me redundancy, and keeps me from having to manage multiple instances) it is VERY slow to rescan. After I made my last filter change last night I'd estimate it took 3 to 4 hours for a rescan. Today I turned on my PC, started MAME Classic again and it started to rescan again as if it had never done it before. With IV/Play it assumes you have everything and shows everything immediately. If you click on a game that you don't have ROMS for it just gives you an error that it can't find the ROMS and you're back in business.

So if there was a setting in a future version of MAME Classic were to assume you have everything and you were to filter some choices out, it just needs to filter them from the available list, not do a rescan.

I'm sure I'm the outlier in this situation as most people just have all of their ROMS on the HD with their MAME installation.

Thanks!
