DICE Emulator

It's been a long time since the DICE project stopped, which was kind of bad but... what happened? Why did it stopped?

Sometimes, projects just stopped.

Kind of sad. It had potential as an emulator of games that can't be emulated in MAME... For now.

I thought all the games DICE emulated were in MAME now.

I don't know, sincerely.

It's been a while since i stopped following non-emulated MAME TTL games stuff.

From what i know, some are on MAME but "Not working", and somebody made a "almost 100% accurate" simulation of Death Race.

About almost all of the TTL ic’s that were supported in DICE are now supported in MAME. There is/was a comparison web page for DICE and MAME emulation, but I don’t know if that page has been updated.

iirc Midway TV Basketball which was emulated in DICE had a couple ics not yet emulated in MAME, but that was a few years ago. Some of those might already be emulated by now.

There are still quite a few components needing to be emulated first before a game can be emulated including emulating the rom chips along with having data dumped from the roms and proms.

The proms from both Death Race and bootleg clone of Death Race (Robot Hunting) are already supported / documented in MAME.

Exidy Death Race 1976

There might be components still needing to be emulated first before any work can begin with Exidy games of
Death Race and Destruction Derby.

A Question:
Would Atari's Video Pinball console (C-380) be supported as TTL? Or through "standard" emulation in MAME?

Not a dev myself so I'm hoping I phrased the question correctly. And I know it's not emulated yet.

I'd be happy to donate one of the two that I have if it helps. I bid on them both years ago thinking I wouldn't win either and I wound up winning them both.

Video Pinball was similar to Pong, as it was "Video Pinball on a Chip", albeit a bit more complicated than that. I repaired mine ages ago (had a bad resistor), and only recall the one large chip that controlled all of the game logic and inputs.

Here is some info, including a picture of the PCB- https://nicole.express/2021/pinball-in-your-house.html

Brian’s post is good itself, but if wondering how this might be supported if and when emulated, it might be treated similar to this other already emulated product, but maybe some differences might be in play especially the chip itself.

https://seanriddle.com/ay-3-8800-1.html

The AY-3-8800-1 is a video chip from GI that was used in the Unisonic Champion 2711 TV game.

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/unisonic/unichamp.cpp

Other products use different General Instruments brand chips that are designed differently.

There might be some possible limited TTL work involved. It will be interesting to see the differences if the Atari items get emulated.
