Hardware for Mame rig
#394925 - 10/06/22 04:39 PM

Hi,

just a quick question, maybe someone can help me:
I'm a bit out of the loop mame wise and want to do a quick setup for the kids to show them some console and arcade games until up to 2005.

I have one i9-10900K with Geforce 1660 GFX Computer and one i5-7200U AIO Device which i could use.

Will most of these old systems run OK on the AIO or do i have use the i9-10900?

TIA

For the classic arcade games, MAME will emulate all of them fine on either one of those computers. I'm not sure about the console emulators but I have about 12 consoles emulated on a small HP i7 tower tower that I bought on amazon for about $350 with a 1TB ssd drive and 32 gigs of ram. I just added a geforce 1030 to it for smoother running MAME effects. You'll need some kind of controller with joysticks and buttons for authentic game play, I use an old SlikStik CO2 that also has a spinner and trackball but you don't need something that elaborate. For the console games an xbox 1 controller with the wireless usb adapter works great for all the console games.

Thank you for the answer.
i still have a HotRod with PS/2 connections and a self-made Joystick and buttons smasher with an I-PAC USB controller which i want to revive. Both without a spinner sadly. Back in the time i had a spinner but i cant find it anymore...

Ultimarc website should have all the stuff you need. Ebay has some cheap good quality steering wheels which supposedly work with MAME and they're usb I believe. Logitech has many with shifters and 2-3 pedals. I was thinking about adding one to my cabinet to have a better driving experience.
