taito_z driver lamps MAME 0.246
#394552 - 08/02/22 05:04 PM

In MAME 0.246, I added a lamp output for bshark, it looks like someone already made artwork for it: https://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/sh...part=1&vc=1

chasehq is not compatible anymore, lamp outputs were changed to genout5, genout6
The Japanese version of chasehq has only 1 lamp by the way, as does the Japanese version of SCI.

I also added lamp outputs to taito_z Night Striker, lamp0-lamp7.

Very cool... thank you!!

Updated artwork file attached for chasehq, including some bezel touch-ups, and made the marquee/lamps look nicer.

EDIT: Weird... having issues with attachments here... added it to the normal artwork download page. (Thank you r0n1n).

Still question on the lamps... is it required to dump something that is on the PCB that attaches to the marquee lamps? Or is it just something that needs to be identified so that it can be hooked up in the driver?

I'm guessing it's line 263 in the driver that describes this? [ Toshiba TD62003 PNP 50V 0.5A Quad Darlington Switch (for driving CPU-controlled lamps via 2x NEC 2SB1150 PNP Darlington Transistors) ]

I can't find the video I originally took... but below are a couple examples:

First video shows it as I remember it... each side flashes a couple times, back and forth:

This video below is from a KLOV thread of someone repairing their cab:

https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/chase-hq-restoration.208225/page-2

He didn't have that PCB in the marquee that controls the lamps, and mentions that he had to make a "hack" pulling the patrol light signals directly from the main board (IC77) and drive two external solid state relays

https://youtu.be/L5YBn_qi8e4?t=122

If you notice... this is how the attached artwork behaves today... like it is missing the marquee PCB.

Side note... weird... I could have sworn I worked on artwork for SCI at some point... but can't find it.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

A Darlington whatchamacallait is not a chip that can be dumped or needs any emulation to work.

Yeah I saw that video of the guy powering on the cab and the lamps flash fast. It doesn't do that on MAME at all when you boot it up, I don't know why.

Other video showing the same lamp flash frequency as MAME:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKhlQpO0E68 (both red?? or is that caused by reflection?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lgs9zODBZo (sit-down, only the right light shown)

*edit* if fast-flashing is how you remember the real arcade cab, then perhaps there's an undumped USA version.

What exactly do the lamps on Night Striker do? I can't find any photo or video of a cabinet that has them or uses them...

The lamps have names in service mode. Some of them are button lamps. Spot lamps are for when you get hit.
And I assume the motors+lamps are rotating tubes with holes in them that give the illusion of flying in the cockpit cab. Kind of how a disco ball works?

See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD1h1QouXgw
(shows scrolling lights, and also shows red glow when he gets hit)

Helpful! But replicating that kind of animation would be beyond my rudimentary skillset, if it's even possible yet. MAME would have to support animated GIFs in artwork or something...
