steps to reproduce:
1. hbmame -createconfig 2. make any changes in hbmame.ini 3. hbmame -showconfig

Shouldn't this be in the HBMAME forum area?
You need to copy hbmame.ini into the ini folder before it takes affect.

sorry, i thought i'm posting in HBMAME forum. should be my mistake. > You need to copy hbmame.ini into the ini folder before it takes affect.
thanks, now it reads hbmame.ini file. but before HBMAME could read hbmame.ini in HBMAME root directory, like official MAME. can this behavior be brought back?
i tested latest MAME 0.246 and it can read mame.ini in MAME root directory.

They are different programs. The intention is to stop the root folder getting clogged up with ini files, it's cleaner if they are in the ini folder. And, just last month someone asked me to make it the way it is now. So, it's not possible to please everyone. You can always compile your own and make the one-line change needed.
