they've always booted somewhat randomly for as long as the segacd driver has existed, if you're saying they consistently boot now then that is a change, yes.

Yes I've launched both at least a half dozen times over the last few days and they've booted each time. I only checked because someone tweeted about Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors the other day, so after giving that a go I figured I would try those two for giggles and I was pleasanly surprised.
